Now that I have crossed the 50 pound threshold of weight loss, there are some things I have definitely noticed. I thought I would take a few minutes to talk about them, and share some pictures to illustrate the point.
Let’s start with a bit of a dramatization
That is a picture of me holding about 50 pounds of charcoal. There are two 20 pound bags, and one that is about 8.5 pounds, so it is close to 50. It took a couple of attempts to get the picture right, and let me tell you, it was uncomfortable to hold them for that small amount of time. Back on February 28, I was carrying all that weight on my body 24 hours a day.
I am really starting to feel differently. I no longer dread stairs, or a longer walk for a parking space. I ask my wife to go on walks while camping where previously I’d have opted to sit and read. I come home from work and look for things to do, rather than collapsing on the couch for a nap. The combination of my weight loss, and my increased exercise has truly made a difference for me.
This past weekend my wife and I took a trip to W.J. Hayes State Park for some camping. This park is close enough to our house that we can comfortably go after work and be set up before it is too dark. This week I was packing hastily. When I arrived at camp I realized that I had forgotten to bring underwear. At dinner we debated a couple of ideas, and finally decided that I’d make a trip to a nearby Walmart to buy some underwear.
In the past couple of years I have had to mail order my underwear because none of the brick and mortar retailers carried my size. The exception was Casual Male XL (now known as Destination XL), but their prices were quite high.
As you can see from the package above, I now fit into underwear that is sold at Walmart. I was giddy with excitement when we got back to the camper and I tried them on. I was expecting something of a snug fit, but they fit me VERY well.
So, there you have it. A couple of things about crossing the 50 pound line. I no longer tote around the equivalent of two plus bags of charcoal, and I can now shop for underwear at Walmart. That second one may not seem like much to you, but I was pretty darned excited about it!
